An abdominal ultrasound is a test that uses sound waves to take pictures of the inside of your belly. It helps doctors see organs like the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and kidneys. It can also show the big blood vessels that go to these organs, like the aorta and the inferior vena cava. This test is safe and does not use radiation. It helps find problems such as pain, swelling, or signs of disease in the belly area. The ultrasound is done by moving a small device over your skin to create the images on a screen.
